In October 2005, Grand Atlantic formed at a coffee shop in Brisbane's Paddington, emerging from past musical expressions and experiences. As Tonjip, several members had toured nationally with the likes of Rhubarb and Diana Ah Naid, as well as completing numerous local tours and supports. 2004 had been a big year for them, with their single "Coolite" on national Triple J rotation for more than 20 weeks, reaching #3 on that station's net 50 in August. Their great run included generous national commercial and community radio airplay, several national tours and solid support for the single's accompanying video. But it all takes its toll. When Tonjip wound down in mid-2005, the decision was made to re-group, re-load and head back out into the maelstrom that is the music industry.
